Here's a blog post I never thought I'd write. Over the past few weeks on Pinterest I've accumulated quite the collection of tattoo pins amongst my usual pretty gold polka dots and perfect Scandinavian interiors. Actual, permanent tattoos; not a henna or a transfer you get free in a packet of Cheetos. Tattoos have never really appealed to me in the past and even earlier this year when my boyfriend decided to get 'inked', I was less than pleased. But now I seem to have developed a full on infatuation for body art - I can almost hear a certain tattooed friend rolling her eyes and thinking "hypocrite" and a certain other, untattooed friend rolling her eyes and thinking "slag tag". I'm not talking huge skull designs that encompass my entire back, or a fallen angel running the length of my arm. No, my Pinterest has been taken hostage by dainty finger tattoos and elegant wrist inscriptions: the Chihuahuas of tattoos - do they even count?! But I have to say, I'm very much hovering in the middle of these two friends: in a perfect world I'd get a tattoo and not worry about the consequences (I mean, I already have this mentality when it comes to ASOS on payday), but there are so many reasons not to.

My biggest influence against tattoos has undoubtedly come from my parents: they would crucify me - and why bite the hand that feeds you, doesn't charge you rent and drives you to and from the station everyday? My dad is pretty old school - he chased my older brother around the garden when he got his ear pierced in the 90s - and despite being almost 24 years old, I just don't know if I can handle the disapproving looks and "we're so disappointed" lectures. Also, it's this 'old school' generation that will be sitting opposite me with a notepad and pen in many an interview to come, I'm sure. It's difficult enough to get a job and with so many candidates to choose from, do I really want to be branding myself as a careless individual with an inability to consider the future? A little research has shown that's how many employers in professional fields consider tattoos. I'd like to think this outlook is on the decline, but imagine not getting a dream job because of a tattoo. That'd be crap.

Tattoos are forevs. Even when your Best Friend 4eva has moved away, gotten married and lost touch, the tattoos you both got when you were 21 are still going to be there plain as day. I've found myself asking this: is a cute design on my index finger going to look as fly when I'm 35, 45, 55? How tacky is that image on my wrist going to look on my wedding day? Not good. Cara Delevinge recently got a lion tattoo on her finer - how crap will that look in 10 years? I like the idea of having a tattoo now, but what about later in life? It's a big, irreversible commitment and I confess I have a tendency of changing my mind about things on a daily basis.

There are so many good reasons not to get tattooed, but I still want one. I still find myself thinking: you only live once. What are your thoughts on tattoos? x
Nataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05949563105177506579noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4393698248846009604.post-82991711337796420462014-09-30T21:58:00.001+01:002014-09-30T21:58:40.707+01:00Amazing Amy

I've really managed to drag these holiday photos out a while, haven't I! It's been about three weeks since I got back from Greece, so I promise this is definitely the last holiday-related post. Just another outfit I wore out in the evening in Mykonos - which now seems like a distant memory. Ah, look how tanned I was! I feel like the majority of my going out outfits - and probably most of my outfits in general - are monochrome. Does that make me boring? The versatility of the trend just gets me every time; there's nothing quite like getting your money's worth out of a garment (especially when things like this crop cost £20 for next to no material). But actually, this little top from Zara has come to no end of use this summer. I originally spotted it in the Lakeside store back in February when shopping for a dress for my brother's wedding. My mum talked me out of buying it because 'it's too impractical', but I knew I was going to go home and order it straight away.

Is anyone else as excited as me about 'Gone Girl' being released in cinemas this weekend? Actually, Thursday. But I'm going to see it Friday. My best friend and I are dragging our boyfriends along and I'm finding it difficult to think about anything else. There's also a high chance that Nando's is going to be involved, too. Perfect double date night or what?! I read 'Gone Girl' whilst in Greece and literally could. not. put. it. down. I also took 'If I Stay' away with me, but it's not very long so bought 'Gone Girl' as a last-minute airport purchase. I feel like I've been waiting for this film for years, but it's actually only been a few weeks. Eeeek! Have you read it? What do you think? I've got two of the girls at work onto it now, just so I can TALK to someone about it! xNataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05949563105177506579noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4393698248846009604.post-59180534231825418592014-09-20T16:49:00.000+01:002014-09-30T21:59:06.655+01:00Around the World

A fashion-related post on this blog at long last! This is an outfit I wore out one evening in Mykonos. Mykonos has a reputation for being one of the more stylish of the Greek islands, which is not surprising considering it hosts an array of designer shops and boutiques, so it was really nice to get dressed up every evening for dinner and drinks. I have had a massive infatuation with tailored shorts over the summer (I also have a similar pair to these in black from Zara); I dress smartly for work, but trousers were just not happening during our little heatwave, so I stocked up on smart shorts. They're great for work and I love wearing them on nights out for a smart look. It's funny when I think University Natalie would never have considered tailored shorts on a night out - far too conservative! I guess I'm a grown-up now. I feel like these shoes could possibly be Clarks best selling ever?! I worked at the PR agency that represents Clarks earlier in the year and it really forced me to revaluate my opinion of them! Comfortable strappy sandals with a metallic block heel? These were the answer to my summer footwear prayers, and I've seen them (and their lower-heeled alternative) all over the blogs and my newsfeed. Well done Clarks. xNataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05949563105177506579noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4393698248846009604.post-2135857363687221272014-09-17T19:46:00.000+01:002014-09-23T07:21:22.301+01:00Mykonos...
For the second leg of our trip we jumped on a ferry and headed to the island of Mykonos for four days, which pretty much consisted of lazing around the idyllic beaches all day and wandering around the pretty lanes, drinking wine and continuing to eat amazing food all evening. Mykonos is one of the prettiest places I have ever visited - it's definitely right up there with Venice. Similarly to Venice, Mykonos island is pretty small; it has one main road and takes around 25 minutes to drive from one end to the other. We decided to hire a scooter so we could visit lots of different beaches, which was pretty terrifying/fun. I haven't included too many pictures from our stay here because I basically took about 500 pictures of the same things every day: cute lanes, pretty beaches, food, more beach, more food etc. etc. Some of my favourite dishes from Mykonos: stuffed vine leaves, stuffed tomatoes, zucchini fritters, and grilled feta. Yum! I think a lot of the Greek islands are pretty idyllic looking, I'd love to do Greek island cruise one day and see them all! Over the next few posts I think I'll share some of the outfits I wore whilst I was away - definitely trying to string this holiday out as long as possible! x
I'm back from Greece and oh my God now I'm fat. Carl and I had a lovely holiday which was split into two parts: four days exploring the ancient capital Athens, then another four days relaxing on the beautiful beaches of Mykonos. This was my first ever trip to Greece, and I've fallen in love with the country's history, landscapes and food; a country where goosebumps are never an issue and ordering cheese with every meal is not only acceptable, but actually encouraged. What's not to love?

I've always been really interested in Greek mythology, so an eventual visit to Athens with its legion of ancient temples and museums was inevitable. I'm also not ashamed to admit I've worked my way through the entire Percy Jackson book series in the last couple of months. I was recommended by my seven-year old niece (they're actually quite good!). On first impression, I did find Athens to be a bit rough around the edges (my very handy guidebook describes the city as a 'modern urban sprawl of concrete and traffic'), but as we explored the city and got to know it, I discovered it's actually a really beautiful city with unique architecture, a huge national park, and amazing restaurants. We visited the Acropolis, Zeus' Temple and the Kallimarmaro Stadium. My favourite was Zeus' Temple, which I could have sat and stared at all day. My favourite restaurant in the city was 'Eels', they serve the most amazing halloumi I have every tried (Nandos just does not compare) and fresh bread with a delicious fresh olive spread. Mmmm. I really loved Athens more than I expected to and it was a bittersweet departure, but we were heading to Mykonos which was plenty exciting! x

So the ten-millionth task I've assigned myself today to avoid packing for my holiday: write an impromptu blog post about the very things I should be packing. Yep. I'm off to Greece on Monday for a week and although I'm super excited, I cannot for the life of me muster the enthusiasm to pack. Too much brain power and planning ahead required. So let's just talk about it instead. Here are a few holiday handbag essentials which I always have in my handbag from the moment I leave for the airport right up until I land back in the UK.

First up, a Top 10 Travel Guide. I find these guidebooks super helpful when I'm visiting a new city. This one is for Athens as that's where I'm going, but in the past I've bought the Budapest and Venice versions and they've all been full of tips and recommendations, from the top 10 restaurants and bars to monuments, museums and more. And it has a map. Next, a simple yet infinitely convenient coin purse. I've worked in an airport and let me tell you, few things are more frustrating than people digging through their purse deciphering between pounds, euros and God-knows what other currencies. WHAT IS THE POINT. Wherever you're jetting off to, I guarantee you absolutely will not need your Oyster card, Boots Advantage card or that Topshop giftcard you got for your birthday. I usually leave all that at home and pop my currency into my Lulu Guinness coin purse. Lip balm and nail files are general life necessities for me; I cannot deal with broken nails and dry lips, so it goes without saying that these will be coming on holiday with me. Sunglasses. A pair of sunglasses (or three) are obviously a must-have for any summer getaway and the latest addition to my collection are these heart-shaped pair from Topshop. I'm a bit of a bookworm and what with my daily commute into London, I always have a book on the go. I bought If I Stay by Gayle Forman especially for this trip, which is meant to be quite the page-turner. It's just come out in the cinema and I just hate seeing films before reading the book! Finally, I always like to have a spritz of my favourite perfume to hand when I'm in a hot and inevitably sweaty country! This is of course Daisy Dream by Marc Jacobs.

That's enough procrastinating for one day. What are you holiday essentials? xNataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05949563105177506579noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4393698248846009604.post-22195751694639190762014-08-25T12:29:00.000+01:002014-08-25T12:29:26.519+01:00Camping Beauty Bag

During my little camping trip a couple of weeks ago, I discovered packing for camping might even be more of a brain-buster than the hand-luggage challenge that we all know a little too well. When you're sleeping in a tent, the last thing you want is a ton of beauty products cramping up the place. I found the best thing to rectify the problem: be one with nature and minimalise your beauty bag, and these are the products that got me through the week.

Origins Vitazing SPF15 moisturiser is an absolute must-have in any summer beauty kit. I've had this for a while but never used it much. I found it wasn't very moisturising when I used it under a foundation, which made it kind of useless. However, I have found it gives a beautiful, glowy finish when I use it over my usual moisturiser. Perfect for complimenting a tan when you want some super light coverage. I've actually swapped out my usual foundation in place of this since I returned from my camping trip. Second up, the YSL Touche Eclat concealer. I think pretty much everyone has this little magic wand in their daily makeup bag by now, and I made sure I took mine for under eyes and blemishes. It's super creamy, blends so well and - most importantly - hides everything. Thirdly: eye makeup. Even Queen Bey has been quoted that she never leaves the house without mascara on, so let's not get ahead of ourselves on this one. The Shu Uemura eyelash curler and Diorshow Iconic Overcurl mascara are pretty impressive products on their own, so I combine them for a fully-awake, Ive-not-been-sleeping-in-a-tent look.

I really feel like I had the perfect travel makeup bag with me and I'm looking forward to utilising it again next week when I head off to Greece for a week (YES!). Maybe I'll add a few lightweight additions, though. xNataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05949563105177506579noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4393698248846009604.post-18258179842397170192014-08-20T22:54:00.000+01:002014-08-20T22:54:13.131+01:00Happy Camper
Last week I survived my very first camping trip. A few friends warned me camping probably wasn't for me, what with it's distinct lack of internet, electricity and hair-drying facilities. But it turns out I was really very happy to roam around in my bright orange welly boots, mismatched tracksuit and a head torch strapped to my forehead...but the less said about that, the better. We stayed in the cutest little woodland campsite complete with tyre swings and log cabins selling all manner of camping essentials (amazing how many packs of peanut m&ms you can get through in just a few days). The campsite is just outside the seaside town of Swanage, which is such a pretty and fun little town full of colour and activity.

Waking up in a clean, natural environment is so refreshing, and being disconnected from Twitter for a few days was probably good for me, but the best part of the trip: camping food. Camping food just happens to be the ultimate combination of all my favourite foods of all time; I consumed more red wine, cheese and roasted marshmallows than is probably advisable in such a short space of time. No regrets. FYI: the best marshmallows are completely burnt and crispy on the outside, and totally soft and gooey on the inside (chocolate biscuits optional, but advisable). We discovered the best ice cream parlour ever. If you find yourself in the Swanage area, make sure you visit Fortes Gelateria. They offer the best flavours: Key Lime Pie, Salted Pecan and Caramel, Raspberry and Marshmallow (featuring actual marshmallows), and Oreo and White Chocolate to name just a few.

I think it's safe to say I'm a camping convert. See you next year, Dorset! x

Vest: Topshop | Shorts: eBay | Trainers: Reebok | Necklace: H&M

The hot weather this past month really caught me by surprise. A wardrobe full of thick jeans, ankle boots and jumpers doesn't do well in 25 degree London, so last month I picked up a few summer bits in the Topshop and Zara sales. This sheer vest top is a lovely, airy piece in an off-white shade. I paired it with a pair of faux leather running shorts and my Reebok Classics for a casual sporty look. I don't know whether it's my newly established exercise routine (part of my quest for a more organised life), but I've really been enjoying sports luxe pieces this summer. Yay for comfy trainers rather than heeled ankle boots!

I wore this into town today to run some errands and pick up some last minute bits for my holiday. Tomorrow I'm going on my very first camping trip with actual tents and sleeping bags and everything. It's no understatement to say I am a complete camping novice - I've never even been to a festival. Four nights in Dorset with no internet, no makeup and limited electricity. Some people have warned me I'll hate it, but I'm excited to find my inner happy camper. I'm going with family - there will be eight of us including my two nieces and I'm particularly excited to roast some marshmallows on a camp fire, as long as it stays dry for long enough! What are your best camping memories? xNataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05949563105177506579noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4393698248846009604.post-35675668355222800212014-08-08T22:03:00.001+01:002014-08-08T23:21:18.597+01:00I'm Not Dead

Wow, has it really been almost five months since I last posted on here? I won't bore you with every insignificant detail, but the last few months have absolutely flown by in a busy flurry of full-time internships, part-time work and a half-arsed social life - throw a broken laptop into the mix and that's a recipe for one unproductive blog. But do not fear (as if you would); I am definitely going to make an effort to get back on form with this from here on out, for reals. I recently started a new job in London, which ultimately means my interning days are over. As much as I enjoyed interning - the excitement of starting somewhere new, the opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people - it does have some obvious drawbacks. The inconsistency and too-ing and fro-ing of a year's worth of internships leaves you in a rather unorganised - not to mention financially bereaved - condition. I really hate being unorganised (and poor).

So now, sitting at my desk (previously clothing-storage-table) having settled in to my brand new, totally consistent grown-ups job, I am so ready to infuse some organisation back into my life. I always feel more organised when I blog regularly, so let's start with that. x

This jumper is the latest - and most loved - edition to my wardrobe. I spotted it during a last minute Mother's Day rush to Tesco for wrapping supplies with my friend. She definitely wasn't as excited about it as I was. Unfortunately it hasn't photographed very well in these photos; it's actually very sheer and shiny looking - see here for a better example. It's a little more quirky and unconventional than what I'd usually expect from Tesco, which is why I didn't mind paying a little more than I usually would for Tesco clothing...or at least I didn't mind enough to stop me buying it. I just keep telling myself that if it were from Topshop, it would probably have been twice as expensive (and I still would have bought it). I wore this on Mother's Day with a River Island dress and my caged sandals from New Look, which I've enjoyed pairing with just about every colour of socks possible (these ones have doughnuts on). So that turned out to be some expensive wrapping paper.Nataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05949563105177506579noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4393698248846009604.post-68215681520249209642014-03-02T22:15:00.000+00:002014-03-02T22:30:23.781+00:00Mr and Mrs...
Following a real-life five year engagement, my brother and his beautiful wife finally tied the knot this weekend. I love weddings and have fully enjoyed attending my cousins' and close family friends' special day in the past, but nothing could have prepared me for the overwhelming sense of pride and sheer happiness in seeing my eldest brother (and best friend) marry the love of his life. It was the most magical day from beginning to end. I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful, loving family #lovelovelove.

Of course - in true blogger fashion - I took a few snaps of what I wore on the day amongst the beautiful grounds of the venue...

My SLR had been set up ready to record the speeches, so I had to use my iPhone for these pictures - luckily it was a lovely sunny day so the quality isn't too bad! From the flower girls (their two daughters) wearing converse to the Super Mario and Princess Peach cake toppers to the tv series-themed table names, the whole day was completely them - and it was brilliant.

Hen weekends usually consist of large groups of drunk and disorderly women living it large with tacky pink handcuffs waving willy-shaped paraphernalia around. Although I can't rule out the latter, my first Hen experience at the weekend was quite different. I had a deliciously relaxing and totally zen weekend spent at a beautiful spa. Oil based pampering, facials, full body massages and steam treatments were all on the menu - and I've come back rejuvenated and totally inspired to carry on looking after my skin. I thought I'd share a few of my favourite new skin products over the next couple of weeks. First up, the No7 Beautiful Skin Pore Vacuum Mask.

Oily t-zones and problem pores beware; I really think I'm onto a good'un here. This 50ml tube contains a thick, clay-like substance which, when spread evenly over the nose and/or forehead, dries hard and peels off to reveal soft, smooth skin. This stuff is brilliant for cleaning out pores and helping reduce the oiliness which causes spots. I tend to limit my use of this to once a week as part of my weekly intensive skincare regime before applying a nice, thick night moituriser. It does say on the box (it comes in a box) that if you suffer from particularly dry skin, then you're better leaving this one out, but I'd say it's a great treatment for anyone with oil/oily-combination skin or anyone who suffers with clogged pores or spots in those areas.

Do you have any must-have skin saviours?

The most inconceivable incident took place right in the middle of my outfit pictures today; the sun began to shine. After weeks of grey clouds and <strike>drizzle</strike> flood-inducing downpours, the sun put his hat on just in time to mess up the lighting for my photos. How inconsiderate. Weather-related gripes aside though, this is what I wore when I popped into town with Mama Bear today - if you understand 'pop into town' to mean going with the intention of refunding a couple of bits but then browsing for 6 hours and coming home with more than I went out with, then yes, that's exactly what we did. And it was awesome.

The premature Spring-like sunshine persuaded me to head out sans 50lbs coat, which turned out to be a mistake. Brr. My efforts to layer up with this long sleeved stripy top were futile, but I'd do it all again for the sake of wearing this dress! My new Topshop-flavoured infatuation: the denim shift dress of dreams. Dreeeaamy. I must admit, I bloody love a shift dress - and not only because it's my unremitting mission to morph into (faux) 60s sexy Megan Draper - I just think they're so flattering and you can stuff yourself with cake in the M&S cafe until your heart's content and no one will be any the wiser. Winning combo.

So last week my sporadic spending habits escalated to a whole new level of crazy in the form of a cardboard 'N'. Although I had every intention of whipping out the paint brush and transforming it into something fabulous for my bedroom, with my horrendous track record of randomly purchasing things and never using them, this was a pretty risky purchase #LivingontheEdge. However this time, ladies, I surprised even myself.

I've tried to make my room pretty and girly with French phrases in perfect pastel pinks and purples or perfume bottles adorning any and every flat surface, but when you have one bright green wall (see this post) - a blindingly obvious telltale of your inner garishness - there's only so far les français can take you. So I've decided to embrace The Green and add some beautiful gaudy garnishing to my room. I think it actually suits its gentle surroundings, in a weird, opposing kind of way.

Basically I decopatched the heck out of the N, which is essentially the art of ripping pieces of paper up and sticking 'em on with glue. You will need a cardboard shape (I bought this N from Hobbycraft for just £1, but you can get all sorts of animals and objects), a paintbrush, some specially formulated Decopatch Glossy Glue and, of course, decopatch paper. I bought the latter three from The Decopatch Place (cutest little site ever) for less than £6. They have a huge range of papers to choose from or you could purchase one of their starter packs and delivery is super quick.

As the name would suggest, traditional decopatching consists of patches of paper being stuck on to create a patchwork effect. I bent the rules slightly and did strips of paper, which I think works just as well. Rip the pieces up in your desired shape, whack some glue on your cardboard...whatever, stick down your paper and glue over the top to give it a glossy finish when dry. And repeat...1,000 times.

This took me about 30-45 minutes to complete and I'm so pleased with the results. Usually when I set out to do something even remotely creative, my efforts never quite turn out how I imagined (see Halloween spider costume), but my decopatched N has become one of my few successes. I love how it's completely personalised and it only cost me £6.98 altogether - I still have loads of paper left over too, what should I decopatch next? I kind of want a zebra/leopard printed animal head??

I don't know if it's the sweet scented candles or the serene background music...or perhaps it's the higher levels of oxygen from all the indoor plants making me feel a bit light-headed. Either way, a little wander around the garden centre with my best friend browsing all things materialistic and unneccessary (read: pretty stationary, pretty candles, pretty bedroom bits), lunch and a hot chocolate seemed like the perfect way to spend the morning after a fourteen hour shift yesterday. Of course, I took my camera.

I confess: the main reason I ventured to the garden centre (the very same one my parents had to pratically drag me to during the summer holidays as a child) was that I knew they had Yankee Candles. On sale. I picked up 'Warm Spice' after thoroughly (and quickly) enjoying 'Vanilla Cupcake'. I'm pretty late to the party when it comes to scented candles, so please let me know if you have any favourites. I love anything sickly sweet! I also bought this mug for about £2 because it reminds me of Chanel No.5. It will go on display somewhere in my room when I've thought of something to put in it (suggestions?). Finally I bought a cardboard 'N' with the intention of getting a bit creative with tissue paper and the ol' PVA glue. Whether or not that will ever actually happen is yet to be seen. Standard Natalie behaviour.

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray - £21.50

Everyone, I have found my soul-mate. He's seven inches tall and comes lightly fragranced. Over the last four weeks I have been indulging in the Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray and I am totally in love; he knows what he's supposed to do and he does it very well. Honestly, it's been an absolute pleasure. I have thin, very straight hair which, when left to dry naturally (which I rarely allow), looks flat/lank/a bit crap. For years I have trialled pretty much every volumising product going and, until recently, I was convinced the only way to add volume to my hair was by using a mousse, which left my hair very stiff at the roots and quickly made it look greasy. The BB Thickening spray is 250ml of pure heaven for thin hair, really. I usually spray a generous amount all in the roots and lengths of my hair before blow-drying upwards with a round brush. The result: a seriously volumed barnet which leaves hair feeling natural and non-producty. It's so refreshing to buy a hair product which actually does what it says it's going to do. Although, for £21.50, it's definitely on the pricier end of the hair product spectrum, but I've been using it for four weeks (washing my hair 2-3 times a week) and the line is down to the top of the 'Bb', which I suppose is about a quarter of the bottle, so I expect this to last a good two more months at least. I really can't recommend this product enough!

What are your volumising must-haves?

It doesn't seem so long ago that I'd refuse to leave the house wearing anything but my super low-rise, super flared, super long Levis. When I first saw skinny jeans in Topshop, I remember thinking "I'm NEVER wearing THOSE". Of course these days the exact oppostite is true; if they're not high-waisted and ankle-baring, the chances are I won't wear them, which is why I am head over heels for these check trousers. I wasn't sure when they first arrived, but I'm so glad I decided to keep them. They'd be perfect for the office too, but seeing as I don't have an office to go to, I'll just continue pairing them with my leather jacket.

You may have noticed a difference in the quality of my photos - I have finally invested in a new lens for my little Nikon. I've had my camera for over a year now and I've slowly been learning more and more about it by playing around with the various knobs and switches (all technical terms here!) - I've even been experimenting with the manual mode. After a little research on one of those 'Cameras for Stupid People' websites and a lot of luck finding a good deal on ebay, I purchased a 50mm f/1.8 which has improved depth of field and lets SO much more light in - particularly good for dull winter afternoons! I'm having so much fun playing around with it, although my camera looks scarily professional wearing the new lens.

Maybelline Dream Touch Blush - £6.49

I'm not really one to smother my face in make up on a daily basis. Here's a fun fact: during the last few months of my degree, I ventured to the library everyday completely make up free. Oh yeah. To be fair, I had a few more important things to be worrying about at the time, such as the impending 10,000 word dissertation but the less said about that, the better. Even now I don't like to wear too much make up unless I have to, so when I do, I like to keep things nice and natural looking. In my opinion, a light, dewy base is imperative for natural-looking make up - my latest addition to which is this perfectly pretty little blusher. The Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in 06 is a lovely mousse consistency in a beautiful shimmery pink/coral shade. I usually dot it along my cheeks then blend it in using the MAC 109. It creates a beautiful warm glow perfect for a natural looking base and because it's a mousse, you have control of the intensity of the colour and the shimmer depending on how much you blend it.

Overall, it's a nice little edition to my make up bag and at only £6.49, you can't really go wrong. What are your favourite products for a natural looking base?

Shirt: Next | Skirt: H&M | Boots: Topshop | Hat: ASOS | Bag: Red Herring | Socks: ASOS

This is just an outfit I picked up off my bedroom floor for a mooch around the shops at the weekend. I seem to have acquired a post-Christmas-spending-spree induced mound of clothing on my floor and thought I'd better wear them, if only to make my bedroom look a little tidier. I really love this shirt; I've been looking for the perfect tartan shirt for the longest time - who'd have thought I'd find it in the mens section of Next? I don't usually shop in Next - much less from the mens section - but I was helping my brother get some ideas for the groom and groomsmen suits for his wedding in March (nothing like leaving it to eight weeks before the event, eh?) and that's when I saw it. I'm trying to ignore that fact that I had to buy a large in mansizes and just concentrate on the dreamy deep greens, blues and reds that make this shirt the perfect winter accompaniment to staple (faux) leather pieces, such as this biker skirt. Does pairing the shirt with my uber cute new backpack count as print clashing? I received this for Christmas and I'm in love with the Burberry-esque velvet heart print. I feel like a little schoolgirl wearing it!

As I sit here typing away in my cosily-lit bedroom with my lamps and my brand new Vanilla Cupcake scented Yankee Candle and my tartan bootie-style slippers (am I a proper blogger yet?), I'm brainstorming a few new design ideas for Just a Thought...something a little more minimalist but a bit more girly, I think. Just a Thought is a year and a half old and, if I'm honest, I'm just a bit sick of looking at the design! Or maybe, as I've recently changed up my room and cut my hair, I've become a borderline obsessive redecorator who just doesn't know when to stop? Actually, although I don't really make New Year's Resolutions, one thing I have promised myself this year is that I really want to put more effort into this blog. Having gone from straight from being a student to interning to working, I haven't always had the time to put as much effort in as I'd have liked. Now I have, and will - starting with a redesign. I want something a little less in-ya-face. We'll see how goes though, I still need to break the news to my boyfriend that I need him to recode it all for me...

New year, new hair. Cheeeeese. Actually, the decision to shear my head (kind of) has little to do with the new year; I would have gotten the chop weeks ago had my hairdresser not been fully booked over Christmas. The truth is, my long hair and I hadn't been getting on for quite a while. I was constantly making excuses that things would get better - that I just needed a few more layers cut in, or that I'd buy some new styling products and everything would work out fine. In the end it was clear nothing was going to make a difference and after one too many topknot days, I decided the hair had to go.
My hair is fairly thin, so having it long really weighed it down and made it flat. Now, I know I overuse the phrase "there are few things I hate more than...", but seriously, there is NOTHING I hate more than flat hair. Flat hair can ruin my day - and anyone who might have the pleasure of my company on said day. So I decided to get a whopping five inches hacked off in favour of a blunt, messy elongated bob with a few long layers for texture and oomph - and I love it. It might seem weird, but having been bored and annoyed with my hair for such a long time, it feels so strange (and nice!) to have a style that I really like and actually look forward to styling. I've decided I actually quite like making drastic changes to my hair - don't get me wrong, I'm hardly going to dye it blonde or anything, but I find it so liberating and fun going for something so different. I've been playing around with some new products recently which has been pretty fun, so I'll be posting about that when I've perfected my routine. I've always wondered what it would be like to actually like my hair. It's good.

Happy new year! I hope everyone fully enjoyed themselves seeing in the new year and are now suitably partied-out. I certainly am. In fact, I partied so hard this (last?) December 31st that I've given myself laryngitis. Yeah, how cool am I? So my start to 2014 is considerably more quiet than the end of 2013! I was meant to be doing some extra hours at work today but obviously had to ring in sick, so I've decided to get my thoughts down on a webpage (seeing as I can't vocalise them!) with a little room-tour post.

So this is where I'm usually sat when I'm writing on this blog or doing other internt-y things. Since finishing university and moving back home last summer, I've been doing my room up little by little and trying to give it a bit more character. I never really bothered before because I was always flitting between home and uni, but it's become a fun little on-going project for me! It's still not finished; I'm planning to get all creative and make some DIY bits for decoration, but for now I'm pretty pleased with how it looks.

I hope all are enjoying the last few days of the Christmas period, or if you're one of those back in the office today, I hope that's not too grim. I shall be chilling at home with this bad boy and my newly downloaded "Speak For Me" app. Wahey.

I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas! It's been a bit quiet over here what with all the present-opening, eating, film-watching, family-visiting etc. Alllll the good stuff. I spent Christmas Day at home with my family. I have two nieces and they absolutely made Christmas for everyone with their infectious excitement. Cuties.

I look like I'm sponsored by Primark in these photos - can you tell a swish new Primani has opened up near me? Ha! There are some really good bits in store at the moment - lots of block colours which is great for beating the post-Christmas blues AND this lovely loose shift cut is perfect for hiding the ten extra champagne truffles I may have indulged in <strike>and the cheese and the biscuits and the mince pies</strike>. Plus the 60s vibe aids my ongoing quest to actually morph into Megan Draper. If you don't watch Mad Men, you'll never understand #girlcrush.

My cousin was staying with us over Christmas and today she flew back home - a depressing sign that Christmas is definitely over. She's South American but goes to university in France, so she stays with us for Christmas every year and there's always a deflated atmosphere in the house when she leaves! Oh well, we still have New Year to look forward to. I'm super organised this year and have had an outfit planned for weeks. Very unlike me! Last year I went to a massive party with my family then onto a a Salsa Bar with my cousins in Bogota. This year I'm looking forward to spending it at a house party with my best friends. What are you plans for New Years?
Nataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05949563105177506579noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4393698248846009604.post-60372591052027199862013-12-22T19:53:00.000+00:002013-12-22T19:53:43.074+00:00Nobody Likes You When You're 23

On Thursday I turned the grand old age of twenty-three. Twenty-three! When did that happen?! To cheer myself up, I headed to the shops for some, er, shopping. A massive new Primark has just opened up near me, so I was pretty excited to check it out! I've wanted a black fur coat for a while, so when I saw this one with leather sleeves I couldn't get to the till quick enough. I'm certain I'm going to get a lot of wear out of this; I love it paired with a dress and heels, but I'm also looking forward to dressing it down with tartan and jeans. So that was my birthday present to myself <strike>and some Bumble and Bumble products and a few other items of clothing and a new nail varnish</strike>. I had such a fantastic day spent with my family and I was completely spoilt by everyone. My boyfriend bought me this gorgeous Michael Kors watch and my parents treated me to these beautiful Vivienne Westwood earrings.

The best thing about being born in December is that after your birthday, you still have Christmas to look forward to! Just three more sleeps ahhhhh! After an amazing Christmas with my family in Colombia last year, I'm ridiculously excited for a more traditional Christmas at home this year. What are your plans for Christmas?
Nataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05949563105177506579noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4393698248846009604.post-72126572709260749652013-12-13T23:26:00.000+00:002013-12-13T23:26:51.309+00:00Leopard Lovin'

There are two things I find hard to resist in this life (aside from fast food, but we already established that in my last post): leopard print and studs. When the two are combined, well, that's just a Paypal transaction waiting to happen. I never used to be much of a shoe person; throughout university I pretty much lived in my Converse and I owned one pair of trusty black wedges for nights out, but since graduating I just can't resist a pretty pair of pumps. Welcome the latest addition to my collection: the Jeffrey Campbell Martini flats in Leopard print. I have recently been buying more flats/low heel shoes than ever before. Maybe I'm finally conceding to my parent's perception of 'sensible'? Hm, pretty all the same.
Nataliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05949563105177506579noreply@blogger.com3
