Amazing Amy

Top : Zara | Skirt: Topshop | Shoes: Clarks

I've really managed to drag these holiday photos out a while, haven't I! It's been about three weeks since I got back from Greece, so I promise this is definitely the last holiday-related post. Just another outfit I wore out in the evening in Mykonos - which now seems like a distant memory. Ah, look how tanned I was! I feel like the majority of my going out outfits - and probably most of my outfits in general - are monochrome. Does that make me boring? The versatility of the trend just gets me every time; there's nothing quite like getting your money's worth out of a garment (especially when things like this crop cost £20 for next to no material). But actually, this little top from Zara has come to no end of use this summer. I originally spotted it in the Lakeside store back in February when shopping for a dress for my brother's wedding. My mum talked me out of buying it because 'it's too impractical', but I knew I was going to go home and order it straight away.

Is anyone else as excited as me about 'Gone Girl' being released in cinemas this weekend? Actually, Thursday. But I'm going to see it Friday. My best friend and I are dragging our boyfriends along and I'm finding it difficult to think about anything else. There's also a high chance that Nando's is going to be involved, too. Perfect double date night or what?! I read 'Gone Girl' whilst in Greece and literally could. not. put. it. down. I also took 'If I Stay' away with me, but it's not very long so bought 'Gone Girl' as a last-minute airport purchase. I feel like I've been waiting for this film for years, but it's actually only been a few weeks. Eeeek! Have you read it? What do you think? I've got two of the girls at work onto it now, just so I can TALK to someone about it! x

Around the World

Shorts : Topshop | Top : Zara | Shoes : Clarks | Necklace: H&M

A fashion-related post on this blog at long last! This is an outfit I wore out one evening in Mykonos. Mykonos has a reputation for being one of the more stylish of the Greek islands, which is not surprising considering it hosts an array of designer shops and boutiques, so it was really nice to get dressed up every evening for dinner and drinks. I have had a massive infatuation with tailored shorts over the summer (I also have a similar pair to these in black from Zara); I dress smartly for work, but trousers were just not happening during our little heatwave, so I stocked up on smart shorts. They're great for work and I love wearing them on nights out for a smart look. It's funny when I think University Natalie would never have considered tailored shorts on a night out - far too conservative! I guess I'm a grown-up now. I feel like these shoes could possibly be Clarks best selling ever?! I worked at the PR agency that represents Clarks earlier in the year and it really forced me to revaluate my opinion of them! Comfortable strappy sandals with a metallic block heel? These were the answer to my summer footwear prayers, and I've seen them (and their lower-heeled alternative) all over the blogs and my newsfeed. Well done Clarks. x

The State of Dreaming

Vest: Topshop | Shorts: eBay | Trainers: Reebok | Necklace: H&M

The hot weather this past month really caught me by surprise. A wardrobe full of thick jeans, ankle boots and jumpers doesn't do well in 25 degree London, so last month I picked up a few summer bits in the Topshop and Zara sales. This sheer vest top is a lovely, airy piece in an off-white shade. I paired it with a pair of faux leather running shorts and my Reebok Classics for a casual sporty look. I don't know whether it's my newly established exercise routine (part of my quest for a more organised life), but I've really been enjoying sports luxe pieces this summer. Yay for comfy trainers rather than heeled ankle boots!

I wore this into town today to run some errands and pick up some last minute bits for my holiday. Tomorrow I'm going on my very first camping trip with actual tents and sleeping bags and everything. It's no understatement to say I am a complete camping novice - I've never even been to a festival. Four nights in Dorset with no internet, no makeup and limited electricity. Some people have warned me I'll hate it, but I'm excited to find my inner happy camper. I'm going with family - there will be eight of us including my two nieces and I'm particularly excited to roast some marshmallows on a camp fire, as long as it stays dry for long enough! What are your best camping memories? x

We Are Alive

Dress : River Island | Jumper : F&F | Shoes : New Look | Necklace : Topshop | Socks : Primark

This jumper is the latest - and most loved - edition to my wardrobe. I spotted it during a last minute Mother's Day rush to Tesco for wrapping supplies with my friend. She definitely wasn't as excited about it as I was. Unfortunately it hasn't photographed very well in these photos; it's actually very sheer and shiny looking - see here for a better example. It's a little more quirky and unconventional than what I'd usually expect from Tesco, which is why I didn't mind paying a little more than I usually would for Tesco clothing...or at least I didn't mind enough to stop me buying it. I just keep telling myself that if it were from Topshop, it would probably have been twice as expensive (and I still would have bought it). I wore this on Mother's Day with a River Island dress and my caged sandals from New Look, which I've enjoyed pairing with just about every colour of socks possible (these ones have doughnuts on). So that turned out to be some expensive wrapping paper.

Mr and Mrs...

Following a real-life five year engagement, my brother and his beautiful wife finally tied the knot this weekend. I love weddings and have fully enjoyed attending my cousins' and close family friends' special day in the past, but nothing could have prepared me for the overwhelming sense of pride and sheer happiness in seeing my eldest brother (and best friend) marry the love of his life. It was the most magical day from beginning to end. I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful, loving family #lovelovelove.

Of course - in true blogger fashion - I took a few snaps of what I wore on the day amongst the beautiful grounds of the venue...

My SLR had been set up ready to record the speeches, so I had to use my iPhone for these pictures - luckily it was a lovely sunny day so the quality isn't too bad! From the flower girls (their two daughters) wearing converse to the Super Mario and Princess Peach cake toppers to the tv series-themed table names, the whole day was completely them - and it was brilliant.

To the happy couple <3

Dreamy Denim

Dress: Topshop | Stripy Crop: Miss Selfridge | Boots: Dorothy Perkins

The most inconceivable incident took place right in the middle of my outfit pictures today; the sun began to shine. After weeks of grey clouds and drizzle flood-inducing downpours, the sun put his hat on just in time to mess up the lighting for my photos. How inconsiderate. Weather-related gripes aside though, this is what I wore when I popped into town with Mama Bear today - if you understand 'pop into town' to mean going with the intention of refunding a couple of bits but then browsing for 6 hours and coming home with more than I went out with, then yes, that's exactly what we did. And it was awesome.

The premature Spring-like sunshine persuaded me to head out sans 50lbs coat, which turned out to be a mistake. Brr. My efforts to layer up with this long sleeved stripy top were futile, but I'd do it all again for the sake of wearing this dress! My new Topshop-flavoured infatuation: the denim shift dress of dreams. Dreeeaamy. I must admit, I bloody love a shift dress - and not only because it's my unremitting mission to morph into (faux) 60s sexy Megan Draper - I just think they're so flattering and you can stuff yourself with cake in the M&S cafe until your heart's content and no one will be any the wiser. Winning combo.

The Way You Make Me Feel

Jacket: Pronto | Top: Primark | Trousers: Topshop | Shoes: Topshop | Necklace: Primark

It doesn't seem so long ago that I'd refuse to leave the house wearing anything but my super low-rise, super flared, super long Levis. When I first saw skinny jeans in Topshop, I remember thinking "I'm NEVER wearing THOSE". Of course these days the exact oppostite is true; if they're not high-waisted and ankle-baring, the chances are I won't wear them, which is why I am head over heels for these check trousers. I wasn't sure when they first arrived, but I'm so glad I decided to keep them. They'd be perfect for the office too, but seeing as I don't have an office to go to, I'll just continue pairing them with my leather jacket.

You may have noticed a difference in the quality of my photos - I have finally invested in a new lens for my little Nikon. I've had my camera for over a year now and I've slowly been learning more and more about it by playing around with the various knobs and switches (all technical terms here!) - I've even been experimenting with the manual mode. After a little research on one of those 'Cameras for Stupid People' websites and a lot of luck finding a good deal on ebay, I purchased a 50mm f/1.8 which has improved depth of field and lets SO much more light in - particularly good for dull winter afternoons! I'm having so much fun playing around with it, although my camera looks scarily professional wearing the new lens.

Hearts and Crosses

Shirt: Next | Skirt: H&M | Boots: Topshop | Hat: ASOS | Bag: Red Herring | Socks: ASOS

This is just an outfit I picked up off my bedroom floor for a mooch around the shops at the weekend. I seem to have acquired a post-Christmas-spending-spree induced mound of clothing on my floor and thought I'd better wear them, if only to make my bedroom look a little tidier. I really love this shirt; I've been looking for the perfect tartan shirt for the longest time - who'd have thought I'd find it in the mens section of Next? I don't usually shop in Next - much less from the mens section - but I was helping my brother get some ideas for the groom and groomsmen suits for his wedding in March (nothing like leaving it to eight weeks before the event, eh?) and that's when I saw it. I'm trying to ignore that fact that I had to buy a large in mansizes and just concentrate on the dreamy deep greens, blues and reds that make this shirt the perfect winter accompaniment to staple (faux) leather pieces, such as this biker skirt. Does pairing the shirt with my uber cute new backpack count as print clashing? I received this for Christmas and I'm in love with the Burberry-esque velvet heart print. I feel like a little schoolgirl wearing it!

As I sit here typing away in my cosily-lit bedroom with my lamps and my brand new Vanilla Cupcake scented Yankee Candle and my tartan bootie-style slippers (am I a proper blogger yet?), I'm brainstorming a few new design ideas for Just a Thought...something a little more minimalist but a bit more girly, I think. Just a Thought is a year and a half old and, if I'm honest, I'm just a bit sick of looking at the design! Or maybe, as I've recently changed up my room and cut my hair, I've become a borderline obsessive redecorator who just doesn't know when to stop? Actually, although I don't really make New Year's Resolutions, one thing I have promised myself this year is that I really want to put more effort into this blog. Having gone from straight from being a student to interning to working, I haven't always had the time to put as much effort in as I'd have liked. Now I have, and will - starting with a redesign. I want something a little less in-ya-face. We'll see how goes though, I still need to break the news to my boyfriend that I need him to recode it all for me...

Hello Again

Dress: Primark | Jacket: Primark | Boots: Topshop | Bag: Zara | Necklace: Primark

I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas! It's been a bit quiet over here what with all the present-opening, eating, film-watching, family-visiting etc. Alllll the good stuff. I spent Christmas Day at home with my family. I have two nieces and they absolutely made Christmas for everyone with their infectious excitement. Cuties.

I look like I'm sponsored by Primark in these photos - can you tell a swish new Primani has opened up near me? Ha! There are some really good bits in store at the moment - lots of block colours which is great for beating the post-Christmas blues AND this lovely loose shift cut is perfect for hiding the ten extra champagne truffles I may have indulged in and the cheese and the biscuits and the mince pies. Plus the 60s vibe aids my ongoing quest to actually morph into Megan Draper. If you don't watch Mad Men, you'll never understand #girlcrush.

My cousin was staying with us over Christmas and today she flew back home - a depressing sign that Christmas is definitely over. She's South American but goes to university in France, so she stays with us for Christmas every year and there's always a deflated atmosphere in the house when she leaves! Oh well, we still have New Year to look forward to. I'm super organised this year and have had an outfit planned for weeks. Very unlike me! Last year I went to a massive party with my family then onto a a Salsa Bar with my cousins in Bogota. This year I'm looking forward to spending it at a house party with my best friends. What are you plans for New Years?

Nobody Likes You When You're 23

Coat: Primark | Dress : Topshop | Top: Missguided | Shoes: Topshop | Necklace: H&M | Handbag: Zara | Watch: Michael Kors

On Thursday I turned the grand old age of twenty-three. Twenty-three! When did that happen?! To cheer myself up, I headed to the shops for some, er, shopping. A massive new Primark has just opened up near me, so I was pretty excited to check it out! I've wanted a black fur coat for a while, so when I saw this one with leather sleeves I couldn't get to the till quick enough. I'm certain I'm going to get a lot of wear out of this; I love it paired with a dress and heels, but I'm also looking forward to dressing it down with tartan and jeans. So that was my birthday present to myself and some Bumble and Bumble products and a few other items of clothing and a new nail varnish. I had such a fantastic day spent with my family and I was completely spoilt by everyone. My boyfriend bought me this gorgeous Michael Kors watch and my parents treated me to these beautiful Vivienne Westwood earrings.

The best thing about being born in December is that after your birthday, you still have Christmas to look forward to! Just three more sleeps ahhhhh! After an amazing Christmas with my family in Colombia last year, I'm ridiculously excited for a more traditional Christmas at home this year. What are your plans for Christmas?

Leopard Lovin'

There are two things I find hard to resist in this life (aside from fast food, but we already established that in my last post): leopard print and studs. When the two are combined, well, that's just a Paypal transaction waiting to happen. I never used to be much of a shoe person; throughout university I pretty much lived in my Converse and I owned one pair of trusty black wedges for nights out, but since graduating I just can't resist a pretty pair of pumps. Welcome the latest addition to my collection: the Jeffrey Campbell Martini flats in Leopard print. I have recently been buying more flats/low heel shoes than ever before. Maybe I'm finally conceding to my parent's perception of 'sensible'? Hm, pretty all the same.

Summer in the City

Coat: Topshop | T-Shirt: New Look | Jeans: Topshop | Shoes: Kurt Gieger | Belt: Accessorize | Handbag: Zara

Another new blog post, another new pair of shoes. I actually bought these studded lovelies a couple of weeks back - another frivolent purchase thanks to the impossibly tempting tasks of a fashion intern. I needed something to replace my very worn looking Topshop Vectras (yeah, remember those?!), so when I saw these in the sale I thought it must be a sign from the fashion Gods. No other explanation for it. This is an old t-shirt that I've had absolute yonks and I love it, despite not being the biggest fan of the Beatles (not because I don't like them, it's just they aren't on Spotify and I'm too used to getting music for free). In fact, this t-shirt actually landed me in a spot of trouble when I wore it to uni and my lecturer - who is, of course, a massive Beatles fan - excitedly asked me which album is my favourite, to which I replied: "err...the Greatest Hits?" wrong answer. I thought he was ready to scrap the Irish Literature seminar and give me a private Abbey Road crash course.

I wore this today (now yesterday) when Carl and I took a day trip into London. He had a couple of days holiday to take and now I've finished interning I'm bored of out my mind doing nothing, so we decided to go to The London Dungeons, which was really fun. We then wandered over to Covent Garden and had a little mooch around the shops - being sure to do some very heavy hinting in the Michael Kors shop - then, rather than go to some swanky restaurant in Knightbridge, we decided to chow down in the nearest Nandos. Yep, that's just us. All in all, it was a really lovely day. Even though my feet were freezing in my completely ridiculous choice of trouser in these subzero temperatures. None of my other jeans went with the outfit.
